Music Score Editor (MSC-Editor) for MS-Office Add-in (version: )

This add-in allows you to use the "Music Score Editor (MSC-Editor)"—a music score editor designed for educational content from elementary to high school, based on the abcjs library—directly from MS-Office (Word, PowerPoint).
It's designed with simple functions, mainly for educational use, and is offered free of charge.

Multilingual Support
The menus and other elements of this "Music Score Editor (MSC-Editor)" system support:
Japanese (ja), English (en), Korean (ko)
These three languages are supported.
Please note that the language used is dependent on the language settings of the host application (Word, PowerPoint).

Installation Instructions

Because individual developers like myself are not allowed to register Office Add-ins in the Microsoft Store,
you cannot install "MSC-Editor for Office Add-in" from the Store.
Therefore,
please follow the steps below to manually install "MSC-Editor for Office Add-in".

Note that the following instructions are based on the current version of Office as of August 2024. If the content changes due to updates, please adjust accordingly.

Installing on Web Office
Preparation
(1) Download the manifest file for "MSC-Editor Office for Add-in".
Download (MSC-Editor_manifest.xml)
(2) Create a suitable folder and save the downloaded manifest file.
Create a dedicated folder to save only the manifest file.

Integration into each application (Perform this for all apps)
(3) Launch the web version of Word (or PowerPoint).
(4) Click "Add-ins" on the "Home" tab.
(5) Click the "More Add-ins" button.
(6) Click "Personal Add-ins".
(7) Click "Manage My Add-ins" and select "Upload My Add-ins".
In Word, there may be garbled text.
(8) Select the manifest file saved in step (2) using the "Browse" button and upload it.
(9) The "MSC-Editor Add-in" button will appear on the "Home" tab.
(10) Click the "MSC-Editor Add-in" button to display the chemical structure editor.

You will need to install (perform steps (3) onward) for each browser or app.
If you clear the browser cache, you may need to reinstall (perform steps (3) onward).


Installing on the App Version of Office
Preparation
(1) Download the manifest file for "MSC-Editor Office for Add-in".
Download (MSC-Editor_manifest.xml)
(2) Create a suitable folder and save the downloaded manifest file.
Create a dedicated folder to save only the manifest file. (Recommended) If there is a "shared folder" on the network, create a dedicated folder there and save it.
(3) In Explorer, share the folder created in step (2).
If you created the folder on a local drive in step (2), set the folder to be shared. Refer to the following sites for how to set folder sharing.

(Note) The shared folder may be accessible by others on the network depending on the settings, so pay attention to access rights.

Registering the Add-in (Performed only once in any app)
(4) Launch the app version of Word (or PowerPoint).
(5) Select "Options" from the "File" tab in the lower left.
(6) Select "Trust Center".
(7) Click the "Trust Center Settings" button.
(8) Select "Trusted Add-in Catalogs".
(9) In the "Catalog URL" field, enter the "network path" of the folder shared in step (3).
In Explorer, open the properties of the folder shared in step (3) and select the "Sharing" tab.
You can select the displayed "network path", copy it, and paste it into the "Catalog URL" field.
(10) Click the "Add Catalog" button.
(11) Check "Show in Menu".
(12) Click the "OK" button.
(13) Return to the "Options" dialog and click the "OK" button.

Integration into each application (Perform this for all apps)
(14) Exit Word (or PowerPoint) and then restart it.
(15) Click "Add-ins" on the "Home" tab.
(16) Click the "More Add-ins" button.
(17) Select "Shared Folder".
(18) Click "Update" in the upper right.
(19) Select "MSC-Editor for MS-Office" and click the "Add" button.
(20) The "MSC-Editor Add-in" button will appear on the "Home" tab.
(21) Click the "MSC-Editor Add-in" button to display the formula and chemical structure editor.

Register the "Trusted Add-in Catalog" in either Word or PowerPoint. You will need to install (perform steps 15 onward) for each app. If you clear the Office cache, you may need to reinstall (perform steps 15 onward).


Usage Instructions and Limitations
Usage Instructions
When you start the add-in, the music score editor will be displayed in the task pane (right pane).
In the music score editor, you can input scores by operating the top menu, among other things.
You can insert the score into the document by pressing the [Insert] button.
When a score that can be re-edited in the document is selected, the [Edit] button at the top becomes active.
Pressing the [Edit] button will display the selected score in the music score editor, allowing for editing.

General Limitations
Scores placed in the document are in PNG image format, so they can be copied and pasted into other applications, but cannot be re-edited after being pasted, even between Office applications.

Scores cannot be re-edited.
